Babylon the Great 44″x34″ Pencil on Board

Babylon the Great, commonly known as the Whore of Babylon, refers to both a symbolic female figure and place of Evil mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the Bible.  Her full title is stated in Revelations Chapter 17 Verse 5 as “Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth”

This was the other MASSIVE project I created during the Covid-19 lockdown, and it was a labor of love with a huge “thank you” to my model- Goddess Nyx, who worked with me remotely as a photo model for Babylon as well as creating a classic Bible creature that makes little sense in the real world, but the exercise of creating the often drawn “Seven Headed Beast” was a fun challenge to say the least!

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication”

Machiavelli “The Prince” 33″x34″ Pencil on Board

I have had this idea for a fan art/book cover for one my favorite books for years- Machiavelli’s The Prince. And during Fall 2020 I took the leap to educate myself on the times of late 15th century Italy and figured this would be a fairly straightforward and simple project, boy was I wrong. This monster took the better part of four months to actually create, and pushed me creatively and artistically. So I bring you my latest oversized book cover project featuring Nicolo Machiavelli, the diplomat and writer as he oversees the conflict between Caterina Sforza, Cesare Borgia, King Louis XII of France and Pope Alexander the VI as they all connected with the Siege of Forli at the Rocca of Ravaldino in December 1499 and some of the aftermath with the alleged attempted poisoning of the Pope by Caterina while in Castel Sant’Angelo prison. Other religious, military and financial imagery was my attempt to visually show the words of The Prince with power in the church, weapons and economy.
