So I was not happy with the original artwork I did for this project (USP #2’s Cover)- there were several anatomy / proportion mistakes and the image was too crammed to show all of the stuff I wanted to show and ended up not having a good flow/composition. I made the decision to redo it as a gatefold two page cover (front and back) with an 1850 American Flag to join the whole image together to get the space to tell the story and introduce my characters without crushing them in too hard. And you can see my friend, and superstar artist, Jeff Lavezoli’s edits in red on the original artwork where he called out some of my errors with scale, anatomy and proportion-Thanks Jeff! I’m glad I took the time to redo it- this is now a strong piece, and something we can get really excited about as an image and a comic book cover for UGLI STUDIOS PRESENTS #2!!
The inks on this project have been some of the hardest I have ever done, lots of liquid paper, lots of mistakes and lots of edits. I’m not totally sold with the final piece for this, so I might correct it and or redo the piece. but’s it been hard to get this far on this project- If anything, it’s a good character style analysis and study for outfits, themes and costumes/clothing.
Our Next Comic Project from UGLI STUDIOS, and the next Feature tale in Ugli Studios Presents #2- The Painted Ladies of San Quentin- Featuring our new Main Character: Elijah Holman- “The Americano” – set in 1850 California it’s got action, double crosses, guns, dames and even something to learn about the Golden State! So get fired up for the exciting first tale of- Elijah Holman and he crosses paths with Mistress Jessica Belmont, Railworker Assassin Xi Chou Long, Sheriff Tom Potter and a gang of Ruthless Mexican Banditos from across the deserts of the southwest– Adios for now partners, and enjoy the updates as UGLI STUDIOS goes “Western” for the next few months!
The final inked image of Amon Kadesh and Grizelda the Cat from “Through the Eyes of Grizelda”. Overall I was really pleased with this piece- especially Amon’s left hand on his magic sword!

Thanks to all of the awesome backers from the “Through the Eyes of Grizelda” Kickstarter Campaign- we have been able to fund the project to get it completed, and very soon sent to publishers around the United States! A very old and cool friend, Matthew “Donger” Hammer, donated $150 which entitles him to a personal piece of artwork of the characters from the story- so here is the progress picture of this unique piece of artwork I am creating for him!- Amon Kadesh and Grizelda in their younger days- enjoy! I’ll put the inked update on here when it is done.
