12/19/13 – Nude Figure Studies in Pencil with Model- At Art Alliance of Central PA

I could tell this session really went well for me, I was very pleased with my pieces from this week, I think the rust finally came off from missing figure drawing for a few months- enjoy.  And very impressive from this week’s new model who held some obnoxiously uncomfortable poses for decent amounts of time.

I’ve been away from the Art Alliance for months, but back again last week here are the results, I was rusty, but as always a good workout of the fundamentals.

Back at the tables for figure drawing, and it was good to be back again in training!  We had a really good model for this session, he had amazing muscletone and definition, some really creative poses, and wasnt afraid to hold out until his arms and legs fell asleep!  I was really pleased with the last three longer poses, I didnt move, and just drew from whatever angle presented itself, which is always a challenge to go from non traditional POV’s.

Shaking off a few months of self imposed rust (cough cough – 22 inked pages of Painted Ladies of San Quentin done in 23 weeks!!) to get back an anatomy/figure drawing session with our new model, Cristen, at the Art Alliance.

I was really bummed with my first few quick sketches, but the last hour long pose of her in a reclining resting position turned out really well.I was really happy with the hands and torso.  In addition I caught some really nice skin shading to go along with my Patrick Nagel inspired hair.  I also think I did Cristen’s tattoos justice as well!

Another Strong anatomy/figure drawing session with our model Marcell at the Art Alliance- I was really pleased with the sketch of Marcell holding his head, and the quick 2 min sketch of him in a track runner pose.

The longer poses also turned out well, especially the last one – I was able to get some really nice shading and rendering on the shadows and skin tone (it’s the first one after the text here!)

My latest figure drawing session- this week’s Model- Mel- is a Master’s Degree student getting her MFA right now, and she pulled no punches and gave us a tough modeling session, and showed that she is almost super human in holding tough poses to make us all work harder- thanks Mel for the great poses!

Another great anatomy/figure drawing session with our model Danna Jayne at the Art Alliance- the final 45 minute prone pose from the back was hard, but really really please with the outcome.  I also liked the 2 minute leg pose I drew- simple , yet elegant!

Nude portrait drawings with pencil on 9×12 & 13×18 paper- studies range from 1 minute to 45 minutes. This closed out the recent set of sessions at the studio- work with Ms Dayna a.k.a. “Elephant Lady”- see the tattoos- however, I did cheat and give her a mohawk in one of the longer poses.

Nude portrait drawings with pencil on 9×12 & 13×18 paper- studies range from 1 minute to 45 minutes. This closed out the recent set of sessions at the studio- work with Ms Meg- however, I keep cheating and giving her “Patrick Nagel” stylized hair from an 1980’s airbrush dream in the longer 30-40 minute poses. I was really happy with all 3 of our 30+ min poses.
